We've seen both Jahan and the Acolyte be somewhat warned by Hank Johnson about pursuing the Obsidian Shield, which ties into the theme that possibly using it could bring unwanted consequences...

    I find the discussion of Calvin in this document to be interesting... as well as seeing Vesuvius specifically mentioned here. I personally wasn't sure they were connected to this but now it is clearer to me.
