The Enlightened Choice

The Enlightened Choice

Dear BigMatty,

I can only imagine the pressure you have been under for the past few days. I do not envy you. PA Chapeau called it 'a deal with the devil.' I believe it is a choice of philosophy. I know that you telling me the full situation--a person who has been spared the many pulling voices--gave you the calm clarity you needed to see things as they really are. I heard the new understanding in your voice as you laid out the choices as you knew them.

Knowledgeable, experienced Enlightened agents, like AgentKelly, SK8ZION, zmaya, and MyGz, have shared their lore and wisdom with us. While both Jahan and the Acolyte are seen as radicals amongst their factions, the short-term advantage Jahan offers does not outweigh the possible long-term damage she could do. (I can only imagine how livid the Resistance must be at her offer. Will Jahan give them the information when she is denied?) The Acolyte, while not offering a tactical advantage, will still listen to Hank's voice of reason before she decides what to do. It is prudent to give this powerful item to someone who believes in Enlightenment, even if it means we have to fight harder on the ground. We believe humanity is best advanced when people lift each other up, not when we purge our weakest elements.

In the end, there is no choice: we must stand our ground and pursue Enlightenment.

Good luck. I will return on Sunday.

  1. Jahan, it is admirable that you offer assistance to our cause, even against your inclination. I have long said that the aims of any Magnus are not necessarily consonant with the aims of modern faction, and I understand that the resulting discord may profit no one. There may be a time in the future when we can work together, and it is a certain thing that the clash of faction raises dust to obscure a true view of the future.

Acolyte, your honesty is refreshing. Even though you profess your gift to be of lesser value, the fact that you are willing to weigh them and speak what you feel is the truth is worthy of approval. Furthermore, you deserve an opportunity to more directly show your aims to the world.

It may even be that all gifts are not as promised. However, in the end, the scale we must weigh our deeds upon is freighted on one side by the feather of purity.

I recommend in the end that the Acolyte be offered the contents of Harlan’s box. But I have some small questions to ask. This is not a condition, and I understand if the answering is difficult. But it would do much to heal a certain lacuna in our understanding of the events of Jarvis’ last days should we have some answer.

What were the circumstances surrounding the final fate of Mazz? And what is within the cabin?

I feel that there has long been a great deal of reluctance among the Enlightened to your taking up of Jarvis’ burden. The more direct your answers are, the greater ease to our hearts.

“But who can be drowsie at that howr which freed us from everlasting sleep? Or have slumbring thoughts at that time, when sleep it self must end, as some conjecture all shall awake again?”

  2. Steven Callahan we can assure you, and everyone, that the possible outcomes were weighed and the decision was that of the Enlightened team, not any one individual. 🐸

  3. There were two other options. Give the information to the woman who kidnapped Azmati's family and worked with Calvin to engineer the entire Niantic conspiracy or give it to noone and forego the opportunity to learn either woman's secrets. There is no easy answer.

  4. Tough choice indeed Matt Stevenson. Maybe this will prompt The Acolyte to work with our faction more closely and not withhold secrets from us.

  5. Would have made the same choice.

  6. First & Foremost huh? The enl captured the box. It was an enl agent choice to make. This was not under the control of any "investigator group".

  7. I merely offered advice on how to proceed. I know no more of the two offers (nor of the box's contents) than has been shared publicly. I do agree that any information that is not of a compromising nature is best shared as soon and openly as possible.

  8. Compromising strategic advantage in the ongoing anomaly series. There are conflicting goals riding on the outcome in addition to our shared goal of understanding.

  9. Steven Callahan I disagree with that interpretation. I believe the context for "even if it means we have to fight harder on the ground" referred to the open statement that the offer from Jahan would be more valuable than that from The Acolyte. I don't think it meant that sharing with The Acolyte would be worse than not sharing at all.

The false dichotomy here was the choice between Jahan and The Acolyte. All the story elements and Niantic posts focused on those being the only choices.

  10. First & Foremost There were many options. Jahan, The Acolyte, neither, publicly reveal to all, etc.

  11. First & Foremost although we may not see eye to eye on the issue, your position is certainly respected

  12. First & Foremost I can only speak for myself on this one. I am not aware of anything The Acolyte has done for the Enlightened. And this threat of hers to only share intel with the faction if her conditions were met furthers my skepticism of her loyalty to the Enlightened.

  13. Well, offering less is not knowing less... And to know the relative value of the two offers is notable...

  14. Matt Stevenson Please look for the private communication I have just sent to you.
