Full Report on flint dille’s Visit to San Diego

Background
Flint Dille was going to visit UCSD at its annual Filmatic Festival, where people come and enjoy awesome art demos, performances and panels. For this event, which is called “Ingress Gaming Meetup,” it’s an event included in this festival, and people from both factions were encouraged to join.
Party Kick off
Days ago Susanna Moyer posted a picture that has a shape of a teddy bear, which is called Tim Hawkinson (http://stuartcollection.ucsd.edu/artist/hawkinson.html), near the room flint dille is giving a talk on #Ingress . Being a local at UC San Diego, I believe it’s my job to cover his visit to this beautiful campus.
It started at 1330, when Flint walked in followed by two people rumored to be NSA. We went into the room and he started to introduce this game to the audience. Around 1415 his phone rang, and he apologized and did something on his phone (presumably replying to the message he received). After that he stood up and asked us to start enjoying the game, when I had a chance to ask him some questions that were submitted to Project Isthmus earlier. He was willing to answer all of them, but was not able to due to time constraint. The only question I was able to ask is, “What is the Obsidian Shield actually doing?”
Before he answered, he told me that his answer is simply based on his understanding. He said that besides the XM drain we should focus more on what is behind our scanner (as I am writing this, I suddenly realize he might be referring to ADA since it becomes more possible entity to attack the compound). Since the items hacked from the portals haven’t been really changed (except that Dr. Oliver released a large pile of Powercubes), it may be more helpful to explore what we cannot observe from the Portal network. When we are trying to figure out what is ACTUALLY causing XM drain, it might be useful to think what CANNOT be the reason. He also mentioned a sentence that H. Richard Loeb said before in his weekly article (http://investigate.ingress.com/2016/04/30/burned-bridges/) that, “Recursion is a complicated thing.” Then two people from NSA reminded him it was about time to leave, so I had to stop.
After group photos the mission went live at (exactly) 1430. I jumped on my bike and started to do the mission, and finished in in 15 minutes, being the first one to know that it was A Detection Algorithm who attacked the compound (in the mission passphrase, as seen here http://i68.tinypic.com/2a7e9zp.png). While I was sitting on the floor to take a breath, I’m also sending the link to the images from media hacked from the mission Portals, to Brandon Downey and his folks to decode it. Then I went to Flint for reward and he gave me two books (see the pictures below for detail).
Around 1530 we were told that two dead drops had been confirmed, and #enlightened people, Liberty Naud (with the help of John, the kid next to her) and Alexander Yu were fast enough to secure those books, which had important messages in regard of Susanna Moyer and Nigel’s safety (https://plus.google.com/112036898906655255371/posts/WBcomUfjTSH).
Interesting enough, the Portals included in the mission only gave us 10 media in total, fewer than what we needed to actually recover all the redacted messages. However, this time #resistance people were ahead of #enlightened and found some media that #enlightened missed, posting a full image of recovered documents trying to solve the mysterious attack at Acolyte’s compound (https://plus.google.com/+DanielvanOs/posts/EU45618wewz).
From the recovered documents, as Yik Sheng Lee suggested, it’s very likely that ADA planned this with Oliver for something we don’t know for now. And since Oliver ran away on his own, rather than being kidnapped ADA, there must be something happening behind what we can see. But more importantly, I could not help but relate the documents to what Flint just told me as part of the answer to the question – focus on what we could not observe. Who actually gave Oliver the message to help him escape before the attack? Since he got the message beforehand, what are the actual motives that stopped him telling Acolyte? There are so many things we want to know and so many things we are able to know.
Talk with Flint
Before Flint left, I also had a short talk with Flint personally. He told me that he really enjoyed this kind of "small" event that binds people from different factions together. People that we met could just be those frienemies who played with us every day, instead of thousands of people that Anomaly attracts. I'm also looking forward to seeing more events like this happening in Ingress.
